Audiobooks add to ELL Literacy Development

Our first year as a learning community at Cub Run Elementary School is almost complete. It has been convincing to see how our English Language Learners have benefited from the use of audiobooks paired with novels. The audio and visual combination have enhanced their vocabulary and listening comprehension skills.

Next year I hope to circulate portable CD/cassette players so students will have access to these great learning resources in homes with limited media tools.

Have you tried Recorded Books on Playaway? They're individual players pre-loaded with one book, so no equipment purchase or upkeep is required.

So thrilled to hear about the success with your ELA students! Do you just let them listen as they read independently or use another technique as well? Sounds great!

And congratulations, by the way! Spread the word about the contest to other educators as well!
